Russian River Valley has rightfully become a huge name in the industry, when you think of premium quality California wine. What most people don’t know is that Greg La Follette, co-founder and winemaker of Alquimista Cellars, was a big part in making that happen. We first met him when he was pouring his wine at the Palm Springs Pinot Festival. We were totally amazed by his humble and un-pretentious demeanor and in-depth knowledge. Alquimista wine easily became our favorite at the event.
Long before Sideways rocked the wine-world, Greg launched Flowers Winery, turning it into a cult Pinot Noir and Chardonnay brand. Altogether, he has designed and redesigned 14 wineries world wide.
Now, "The Vine Whisperer" aka the man
in overalls, is making wine at Alquimista Cellars, an artisanal winery that aims to craft benchmark cool climate wine. All of their wine is from exceptional vineyard sites, selected for their unique character and regional expression.
The wine is splurge worthy and worth pursuing for true wine fans
2017 van der Kamp Pinot Noir
Floral aromatics and forest floor burst forth followed by baking spices, particularly cinnamon and nutmeg. High-toned red fruit dances along the palate, with hints of watermelon, light stone fruit and strawberry cream in a lilting journey owing to partial whole-cluster fermentation finessed by high mountain tannins and balanced acidity.
2017 Mes Filles Chardonnay
The southwestern-most vineyard of the Russian River Valley receives cool, maritime influences and manifests complex caramelized sweet scents of ginger, spiced custard crust, burnt peat and Asian spices. The palate picks up prolonged broad flavors of figs, almonds and citrus with bright acidity.
