Drink Wine Day
Today, February 18th is "Drink Wine Day", so let's all raise a glass and go clunk. According to Wines & Vines, in 2020, there were about 10,742 wineries in the United States. The U.S. is the leading global consumer of wine with a total retail value of wine sales at about 68.1 billion dollars. The total wine consumption in the U.S. is about 966 million gallons, with approximately 2.95 gallons per annual consumption per resident. No doubt about it we love our wine!
Wine is the go-to for everyday occasions, special occasions such as weddings, birthdays, holidays and let's face it, through these times of Covid, everyday seems to be a special occassion. So let's point out some of the wines we like to drink. They're on everyone's budget, so cheers!
Aconga Red Blend, from Mendoza, Argentina, is a blend of Merlot and Bonarda. The alcohol content is 12.5%. It's taste profile is blackberry, currant, plum and cherry pepper with blackberry and currant on the nose, a round finish of cherry, chocolate and earth. It's light to medium bodied but has has a high acidity which makes it very drinkable.
Lucien Albrect Cremant D'Alsace is a sparkling Brut wine, from Alsace, France. It is dominated by a Pinot Blanc varietal, with a clear, pale yellow color and fine delicate bubbles, that leaves you mesmerized as they dance to the top of your glass. It has a nose of floral and nuts, fresh fruits,(apple, peaches and apricots). There's ripe fruit on the palate, a fragrant freshness and salinity to cut the rich toasted nut flavors. This Sparkly is a classic for any occasion. Pour me a tall one now! Cheers!
