Peju, Yes Please....
A quick history study, guys. In 1982, Tony Peju purchased 30 acres, in the Rutherford District, Napa Valley, and voilla the Peju Province Winery was born. Fast forward
some 30+ years, he's now producing some of the tastiest wines in the valley with the help of his daughters, Lisa and Ariana. Surprisingly, I first discovered this wine at a trade show earlier this year and I've been a fan ever since. And now I’m drinking as much as I can, whenever I can, as fast as I can. 😜
The 2018 Sauvignon Blanc had me hooked by its nose alone. And after tasting it, I can see why it won best in class at Critic’s Challenge 2019 and the Gold Medal at Sauvignon Summit 2019. It has aromas of gooseberry and Asian pear with a bright palate of tropical stone fruit and a hint of sweet lime. Definitely well balanced with fresh acidity from beginning to end. This wine paired great with a nice cheese platter, Marcona almonds and dried fruits.
The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon, another award winner (Double Gold 2019 California State Fair), for being only 4 years old, this wine is drinking like a classic, bold, but well rounded. A nose of dark fruit and graphite with a palate of plum, cherry, blackberry and cocoa nibs. The tannins were velvety and this wine is effortless to drink. The wine was perfect with a rare grilled New York steak.
Being that it's that time of the year, you may want to pick up a couple bottles of each, they’ll go great with all of stress induced by family and what not.
